Hair transplant is the process of transferring hair to eliminate bald areas of the head. Male pattern baldness is one of the most common
problems observed among men aged 50 years and above. This is the condition wherein a good portion of their hair is slowly diminishing,
usually on the front side of their head.
To perform hair transplant, a full mass of hair will be obtained from the donor area. The donor site could be any part of the head
that still has a full lock of hair. To take the hair out, local anesthesia has to be applied. Once the donor hair is removed, it will be
dissected into two grafts or so. After which, the hair should be ready for transplant.
But before doing the actual hair transplant procedure, the bald area should be prepared first so that it would accept the new grafts
of hair distributed to it. Anesthesia is needed for this procedure. The process of transplanting hair into the bald portion of the head
may last for up to five hours, depending upon the actual size of the area.
The transplanted hair needs sometime to adjust to its new position. In fact, the patient would need to go back to the clinic after two
weeks to remove the sutures. There will also be postoperative procedures that they have to follow. By adhering to them, the healing of
the scars in the scalp would be faster and the transplanted hair would also look a lot fuller.
Hair transplant is currently the best solution for hair loss. This is because the effect of this procedure is permanent. Almost all
people are qualified to undergo hair transplant and it has and effectiveness rate of 98%. Hair transplant is a rather simple procedure
that allows people to replenish lost hair on their bald spots. Natural hair would grow on it, nothing less.
Two transplants may be needed to attain as much as 85% of one's regular hair density. However for some patients, a single hair
transplant session is enough. For the others who want to undergo two sessions or more, it is advised that they wait four to six months in
between procedures. Doing so would allow the surgeon to check the proper growth of their hair and to make sure that the wounds from the
previous operation have fully healed before subjecting the scalp to yet another set.
Hair transplant can only be performed on semi-bald people. Totally bald individuals can't undergo hair transplant due to the lack of
donor area. This is because another individual's hair cannot be transplanted into another person.
