Many jokes have been made about people wearing wigs, and of course in the early days of hair piece manufacture and fitment, they were often
glaringly obvious. However, this is not the case today.
Modern hair replacement systems are manufactured to high standards and can blend perfectly with your own hair. The construction of the hair
piece may use real hair or synthetic hair. The use of human hair is said to look more natural and behave just as your own hair would. Hair pieces
using real hair are, of course, the most expensive.
In the past, synthetic hair, although very effective, didn't always blend well with your own hair. However, there have been big improvements
in the manufacture of synthetic hair so that it can now look and feel just like real hair with the advantage of good durability. Hair pieces made
with synthetic hair are now so good that with some types of synthetic hair, you can style them by blow drying or with heated rollers without
damaging the synthetic hair.
The advantage of using a hair replacement system is that it doesn't involve surgery or prolonged application of topical remedies. The
restoration of your hair is quicker and can be styled to look exactly how you would like it. The quality of the modern hair piece is such that
when fitted well it will be virtually undetectable. No one will know that it is not your own natural hair.
You can expect to pay from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars for a hair replacement system. This will depend on the quality
that you go for and also the size of the area to be covered.
There is also some ongoing expense in the form of maintenance of your hair replacement system. This will include adhesives or other methods
for the fitting of your hair piece and additionally some maintenance costs such as having the hair piece cleaned or re-colored. You may even have
to have additional hair fitted as the hair piece becomes worn. This can be quite expensive, especially if you have a very high quality hair
piece.
If you are very active and enjoy sports, especially water sports, you must be particularly careful that the fitting is not weakened. Any
activity that may cause the scalp to perspire or the hair piece to become wet my cause adhesion of the hair piece to weaken with consequent
embarrassing results.
With careful use a hair replacement system can be a perfect solution, especially for large areas of hair loss.
